Iguana Abroad is a truly unique program committed to providing high-quality Spanish language immersion experiences in Mexico. Our trips have one simple aim: to help you master (or learn from scratch) the Spanish language through engaging with Mexico and its culture, exploring the country’s stunning beauty, and making lifelong friends. Our trips combine an intensive Spanish language course, diverse midweek events such as Salsa dancing, Mexican cookery classes and Aztec ceramic sessions, plus various weekend group excursions to diverse and exciting sites of natural beauty and cultural interest around Mexico. On Iguana Abroad we offer participants the chance to stay in homestay accommodation with Mexican families – the true Mexican immersion experience – but there is also the option for non-homestay accommodation for those who prefer to to live independently. Iguana Abroad will take care of all the details: Spanish lessons, accommodation, weekday events, weekend excursions, weekday breakfasts, activities and much, much more! Our Mission
Iguana Abroad is about more than just organising incredible Spanish courses, we want to share something that we love. Our profound passion for teaching languages as well as our adulation for this stunning country that we now call our home – Mexico.
We couldn’t have known 6 years ago that we just wouldn’t be able to leave – the food, the nature, the culture, the people, the weather… Mexico is an extraordinary place.
This is our mission, to share the gift of this beautiful place with other people, to share that same sense of awe that still keeps us here after all those years.

The Iguana Abroad program is unique in its method of teaching Spanish through a mixture of daily personally tailored Spanish lessons provided by native speakers and cultural immersion – real life moments to practice your newfound skills in authentic situations – which include various activities such as language exchanges, and exciting, engaging and memorable midweek events and weekend trips.
Unlike other Spanish courses we also guarantee that you will move up at least one level on the CEFR grading system (the internationally recognized scale of language proficiency) on each two-week Iguana Abroad program.

meet the team
Harry Liuba-Carmichael
Harry has been involved in language learning and teaching his whole life, with a dedication that led him all the way to a master's degree in Russian from the University of Oxford. That said, it was only a few days after his graduation that he was back again on the Mexican Caribbean with a 'cerveza' in his hand.
Harry Chamberlain
Holding a degree in English Literature as well as the language teaching certificates 'TEFL' and 'CELTA' Harry has let his passion for language and education take him around the world - although after visiting Mexico for the third time he just couldn't leave, he loved it too much!
Carolina Martín
Carolina grew up in the north-western Mexican state of Jalisco (where they make the best tequila!). She knows Mexico better than anyone on the team and is in charge of our social media and website design.
